SCRIT electrode contributed to research on “observation of the internal structure of unstable atomic nuclei”.
In 2023, a research group led by RIKEN proved the world's first direct observation of the internal structure of every nucleus with high accuracy. In this revolutionary research, SCRIT Electrodes produced by MTC played a key role. This contributed significantly to the research.
SCRIT is built into the vacuum-vessel of SCRIT unit and consists of several thin wires arranged like a bird cage. This electrode serves to retain the ions of unstable nuclei inside.

A STARS conductor that can operate stably has been operated.
Regarding the research that was press released by NIFS on August 17th, titled "Development of high-temperature superconducting and high-current conductors to accelerate the realization and deployment of fusion reactors - applicable to future fusion reactors and next-generation fusion experimental equipment", the test specimen used in the experiment was a product manufactured by MTC, and we were able to contribute to this research.
At the request of Professor Nagato Yanagi of NIFS, we began prototyping this high-temperature superconducting coil, the STARS conductor (Stack Tapes Assembled in Rigid Structure), several years ago, and finally achieved a practical and stable STARS conductor. It is expected to be used in a wide range of fields, not just the nuclear fusion field.

Delivered a lecture on "Production of Medical RI using an Accelerator" at JAPI
Delivered a lecture on "Production of Medical RI Using an Accelerator" at the JAPI (Japanese Association for the Promotion of Industrial Application of Irradiation) lecture held on Wednesday, June 21, 2023.

In recent years, research and development of cancer treatment using alpha rays generated from RI (Radioisotope) with a short half-life has been actively promoted, and a stable supply of short-life RI produced from accelerators has become an issue.
In addition, technetium-99m, a type of RI widely used in nuclear medicine testing, is currently entirely imported from overseas, and efforts are underway to produce it domestically using accelerators.
Thus, accelerators are expected to play an active role not only in research on high-energy physics such as elementary particles, but also in the production of RIs for medical use.

MTC’s jointly developed super-heat-resistant and high-toughness tungsten received the Best Presentation Award for Applied Research.
High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK) engineer Makimura received the Best Presentation Award for Applied Research at the SAT Technology Showcase organized by the Tsukuba Science Academy.

MTC is collaborating on the research theme, "Super-Heat-Resistant, High Toughness, High-Electrical-Resistivity Tungsten Alloys to Innovate Industries with Leading-Edge Accelerator Technology".
We have jointly received an award from Dr. Reona Esaki as a co-researcher.

In the accelerator, accelerated protons collide with a target to create secondary particles, which are used to study particle physics, matter, and life. The challenge is that it becomes brittle under particle impact and high temperatures. In this study, we developed super-heat-resistant, high-toughness tungsten by refining the crystal grains and strengthening the boundaries between the grains. Super-heat-resistant and high-toughness tungsten are expected to be used in accelerator materials and a wide range of industries, including the semiconductor field.

We will continue to contribute to society through our ongoing commitment to R&D and technological innovation.

Research results will be presented at the "AESJ Meeting".
Metal Technology Co. Ltd. is co-author of a presentation that will given by Dr. Sakurai of Gunma University at the "Atomic Energy Society of Japan 2022 Fall Meeting" hosted by Atomic Energy Society of Japan (AESJ)

This study aims to develop a non destructive testing method for the integrity of Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP) bonding interface by analyzing the scattering and fluorescence X-ray energy spectra obtained by using high energy X-ray.

As a result, high energy X-ray spectral analysis has proven to be an effective non-destructive testing method for HIPed interface.

Theme:Development of a non destructive testing of F82H steel HIPed interface by high energy x-ray spectral analysis.
Presentation Date:Sep 8th (Thu) 9:45-10:00(JST)
Location:Ibaraki University on Hitachi Campus Room H (E1 Bildg.3F No.33)
